Corporate Office
J. Mark Dunning was born in Dothan, AL, and founded Mark Dunning Industries (MDI) in 1980 while still in college at the University of Alabama. Operating out of his home, and performing many jobs himself, he quickly developed a sense of "What it Takes" to succeed in a highly competitive Government Services market. His "What it Takes" outlook on business has thrived on dedication to customer service and complete customer satisfaction. Over the years, he has established MDI as a top tier player in the Solid Waste Industry. As President, Mark guides the company to maintain its focus and provide strategic direction for the future.

Phillip Makowski (Phil) was born in San Marcos, TX, and was raised in Ozark, AL. Phil is a Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a graduate of the University of Alabama. He joined the company in 1997 as Corporate Controller and now handles most of the day to day management operations.

Brad W. Dunning, son of President J. Mark Dunning, is originally from Dothan, AL, and has been employed with MDI since 2006. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Alabama College of Commerce and Business Administration. Brad is a Regional Manager with MDI. His expertise includes Integrated Solid Waste Management, Roll-Off Container Sales, Truck Driving, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, and Government Contracting.

James R. Lane (Rick) is originally from Charleston, SC. He has provided MDI with 24 Years of dedicated service, and has managed Solid Waste Management contracts at Fort Campbell, KY, and NAS Pensacola His Area of Operation and Expertise: Management of Solid Waste Services & Refuse Collection, Hazardous Waste Management, Recycling, Roads & Ground Maintenance, Landfill Operations, Equipment Maintenance, Municipal and Government Contract Management, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, and Natural Disaster Response.

Felecia Starr Bowman (Starr) was born in Heidelberg, Germany. She joined Mark Dunning Industries in 1993 at the Corporate Office in Dothan, Alabama, where she managed several county and municipal contracts for residential and commercial refuse collection. In 2003 Starr accepted the title of MDI's Safety Director. Her expertise includes Landfill Diversion and Recycling, operations management, fleet maintenance, DOT regulations, and Safety Protocol, where she has earned Mark Dunning Industries safety awards for four consecutive years. Starr remains true to her roots and can often be found hanging on the back of a residential truck.
Virginia Office

Born and raised in Clarksville, Tennessee Jeremiah came to Mark Dunning Industries in 2002. As an accomplished driver with the company, Jeremiah accepted the responsibility of Fleet Manager and Shop Supervisor. Jeremiah relocated with MDI to Virginia in 2005 where he was promoted to Project Manager for the Refuse & Recycling Contract at Fort Lee. Jeremiah's vast experience with the company has enabled him to be an efficient manager.
He is committed to ensuring the highest levels of customer service by utilizing effective personnel management practices and efficient logistics scheduling. Jeremiah has been recognized by the Fort Lee Community and numerous clients for his dedication to provide exceptional customer service. Jeremiah also has expertise in Landfill Diversion and Recycling.

Originally from Vermont, Carrie started her career in 1998 with Mark Dunning Industries in Clarksville, Tennessee. Over her years with MDI Carrie has worked in several capacities with the company. In 2005 Carrie relocated to Virginia and was promoted to Assistant Project Manager for the Fort Lee Refuse & Recycling Contract. Carrie specializes in public relations, roll off operations and assisting clients in creating customized recycling programs for LEED construction projects. Carrie has worked diligently with Fort Lee to increase and develop a successful recycle program, with expertise in Landfill Diversion and Recycling; one which has earned both Mark Dunning Industries and Fort Lee recognition and awards.

Scott Flanders joined MDI in June of 2010 as the new Sales Manager for the Prince George Virginia location. Scott was formerly employed with Ace Hardware Corporation and brings 17 years of experience in the distribution and logistics management industry and provided leadership and development for warehouses in California, Missouri and Virginia. Scott has held previous titles with Ace as Operations Manager, Facility Manager, Logistics manager, and Inventory Manager. Scott is proud to be a part of MDI, the Virginia team and looking forward to learning the necessary skills and abilities to make MDI the area leader in the refuse and recycle industry.
Alabama Office
Roy H. Phillips was born in Tampa, FL, and has currently been employed by MDI since 1982, making him the longest tenured employee. He currently manages the Refuse and Recycling contract at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and he also runs the Dothan shop at the home office. His areas of expertise include, Driving Instructor of New Employees, Welding, Painting, Truck and Container Repair, Solid Waste Management, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, Roads and Grounds Maintenance, Lake Fertilization, and Government Contract Management.

Ronnie Knotts is originally from Troy, Alabama, and is currently the Sales Manager for the Alabama Region One. He was originally employed with MDI in the late 90's, and returned to the company in 2008. His expertise includes more than 20 years of Solid Waste Management, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, including Roll-Off, Front Load, and Compactor Sales.
Colorado Office

Dave Phillips is originally from Bristol, TN, and he has been with MDI since 2006. He is currently serving with the Colorado National Guard, as well as acting as the Contract Manager at Fort Carson, CO, and Head of Sales in the Colorado Springs, CO, area. He has vast experience in the disposal industry, Management of Solid Waste Services, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, and Government Contract Management.

Marlene is originally from Pueblo, CO. She has been in the Solid Waste Management and Recycling business since 2000, and has been with the Mark Dunning Industries since 2008. She specializes in Solid Waste Management, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, and Government Contract Management.
Georgia Offices

Barry Martin is originally from Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He is a 6 year veteran of the United States Air Force, and has currently been employed with MDI since 1984. He is the Refuse Collection and Grounds Maintenance Project Manager for Kingsbay Naval Submarine Base in Kingsbay, GA. He has vast knowledge in Solid Waste Management, Landscape Proposal Preparation, Expertise in Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, and Government Contracting.

Robert T. Burke is from Brunswick, GA, and has been with Mark Dunning Industries since 1991. He received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 1976 from the University of Georgia, and he has his Georgia Commercial Pesticide Applicators License in 3 Categories. His current position is the Refuse and Grounds Manager at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, GA.

Timothy M. Grammer is originally from Portsmouth, VA, and was raised in Anniston, Alabama. He has been with MDI since 2007, and is currently the Refuse and Recycling Manager at Fort Benning, GA, and head of Commercial Sales in the Phenix City and Opelika, AL and Columbus, GA areas. He has more than 21 years experience as a driver and manager in the refuse business. Timothy served in the U.S. Army from 1982-1989, serving in South America and Anniston, AL. His Area of Operation and Expertise: Management of Solid Waste Services & Refuse Collection, Recycling, Equipment Maintenance, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, and Municipal and Government Contract Management.
